Perlitemp ®
is a rigid block and pipe thermal insulation recommended
for use in industrial facilities, such as petrochemical plants,
refineries, thermal power houses and other process industries, where
temperatures range up to 650º C (1200º F).
For
higher temperatures, this insulation is used together with refractory
materials, like in ceramics kilns, metallurgy, and iron and steel
industry. Its main component-expanded perlite- is one of the
best thermal insulations known in the present. Mined from the
Argentinean Andes, perlite is a material ideal to insulate piping and
equipment at high temperatures owing to its low thermal conductivity,
good mechanical strength and low levels of water absorption.
Its light weight and resistance make
Perlitemp®
easy to handle and install.
Contact with water does not affect its thermal conductivity, which
makes
Perlitemp®
the ideal thermal
insulation for any kind of industrial plant. As it is noncombustible,
it does not spread flames or cause fires:
Perlitemp®
protects piping and other
equipment.
Perlitemp®
offers the lowest levels of thermal conductivity among insulations
commonly used in industrial plants. It is non-corrosive. Its low
concentration of chloride ions, sufficient amount of silicates and
sodium compounds provides carbon steel piping insulated with Perlitemp®
an excellent protection against corrosion. It does not absorb water. It
is free of asbestos and any other material harmful to health. Its
handling does not irritate skin.
Stable thermal
insulation
As
it is rigid, Perlitemp®
endures high-abuse conditions without changes in its characteristics or
thickness, keeping its thermal insulation capacity intact.

Lower
fuel consumption during rainy and following days since the insulation
does not get wet. On any rainy day and the days after, check to see the
increase in vapor production needed to remove the water absorbed by
fibrous insulation. Besides, such an insulation does not recover its
insulating properties after moisture has been removed. A similar
situation applies to calcium silicate.

renewal of installations and high value equipment. It postpones the
renewal of installations where piping and equipment value are much
higher than insulation costs.
Check the state and condition of piping covered with fibrous insulation
or silicates when removing insulation after five years of use.

Protects your
equipment from flames
During
fire exposure, a thin layer of Perlitemp®'s
external surface melts and vitrifies. This vitrified layer protects the
insulating internal mass, preventing its perforation and protecting
piping from direct contact with flames.

Lower
fuel consumption.
As its shape does not change, rigid insulation prevents the important
heat loss produced in the upper quadrant of a fibrous insulation.
Theoretical fuel saving reaches 20%.
If you check the temperature of piping insulated with fibrous material,
you will notice the temperature is much higher in the upper part than in
the lower sectors and the sides.
Perlitemp®
is not damaged by fire.
It does not produce flames.
It does not develop smoke.
It does not produce toxic emanations.

Savings
on thickness of insulation
With Perlitemp®
you can use thinner layers of insulation, which means a saving of over
10% in the insulation system. Perlitemp®
does not need the additional installations required by fibrous
insulation and which represent between 3% and 6% of insulation costs.
Its mechanical resistance to compression is more than twice the pressure
exerted by a man 90 kgs. in weight standing on his toes on the thermal
insulation.

The only reusable thermal
insulation
Perlitemp®
is the only thermal insulation that can be reused after operationally
modifying or repairing the piping it insulates.
Perlitemp®'s
easy system of mounting and dismounting - unique among industrial
insulations and its high mechanical strength - stable even after
exposure to high operating temperatures - provide a significant decrease
of maintenance costs.

Available shapes and sizes
Perlitemp®
is manufactured as molded pipes and
blocks.
Perlitemp® insulation
pipes are supplied as follows:
Length
of each piece: 914 mm (36 in)
Half
sections [2 pieces], for 1/2 to 10 in. pipes and tubing
Curved segments [4 pieces], for 12 to 20 in. pipes and tubing
Blocks are supplied as
follows:
305 mm x 914 mm
500 mm x 900 mm
Thickness
ranges from 1 to 4 inches, in increments of 1/2 in.
When necessary, insulation is furnished in dimensions that allow for
multilayer application.
For larger works, Perfiltra is ready to supply the.product in other
dimensions, as required.
It
does not contain asbestos nor any other material that may pose health
problems.
Its handling does not irritate skin.
Its low concentration of chloride ions and the appropriate amount of
silicates and sodium compounds help protect piping from corrosion.
Noncombustible. It does not contribute to flame spreading.
