The
agricultural perlite
The
use of perlite as a substratum for cultivation is, among other
applications of this mineral, the most divulged use in the world.
Since its origin
is inorganic and its production process is made at very high temperatures,
it is sterile, avoiding the agriculturist's disinfecting expenses. Its pH
is neutral. Its cationic interchange capacity is null. In cultivation
combinations, Perlome agricultural perlite
gives airing, favoring the growth of roots and development of soil
mineralization.
Perlome's
surface special configuration allows retention of humidity for longer
periods, and easily eliminates water excess upon saturation.
In this way,
nutrients that are soluble in water remain trapped in the surface of
perlite particles. Since perlite is such a lightweight material, crops
combinations prepared with such material, are also very light. This is a
major advantage when cultivation is prepared in hanging baskets, flower
boxes, or flower pots.
Hydroponics is
found among the most modern horticulture and floriculture systems. In
these practices application, Perlome
constitutes the ideal substratum.
